News update: Police ID victims of fatal July 11 crash on Ben White Blvd
AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have identified the three victims of a crash on July 11 involving a vehicle going off the side of an overpass on Ben White Boulevard.
This is an update to a previous news story.
According to the Austin Police Department, the crash claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy, who is not being identified here due to his age, 40-year-old Raul Vargas Jr., and 40-year-old Juan Antonio Mireles Perez.
The accident happened in the 4400 block of E Ben White Boulevard at 2:44 a.m., when a maroon 2009 Acura sedan and a grey 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck collided. The impact sent the Silverado over the highway barrier and into a parking lot near the frontage road, where it landed on its roof.
Vargas, Mireles Perez, and the teenager, all riding in the Silverado, were pronounced dead at the scene.
An occupant of the Acura was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for non-critical wounds.
The Acura’s driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with authorities.
The crash, which is the 60th fatal collision of the year in Austin, remains under investigation.
