News update: Police ID victim of Sunday’s hit-and-run crash on Research Blvd
AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have identified the victim of Sunday’s fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Research Boulevard, according to information from the Austin Police Department.
This is an update to a previous news story.
The crash happened at 1:53 a.m. Sunday in the 8000 block of southbound Research Boulevard, near Lamar Boulevard, as 35-year-old Oscar Carreon Valdez was standing outside of his car and inspecting the damage from a previous collision. He was then struck by the driver of a gray Mercedes-Benz who then fled the scene.
Carreon Valdez died at the scene.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect driver and vehicle, which may have a missing passenger-side mirror and damage to its front passenger side. Those with details about the crash are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 512-42-8477 (TIPS).
The crash, which is the city’s fourth fatal collision of the year, remains under investigation.
