News update: Police ID 18-year-old killed in late-night hit-and-run crash on I-35

AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have identified the 18-year-old man who was killed in a late-night pedestrian crash on I-35 this weekend, according to information released by the Austin Police Department.

This is an update to a previous news story.

The crash occurred in the 12300 block of N I-35 southbound at around 11:44 p.m. Saturday, after the driver of a Honda crashed their vehicle. The people inside the Honda then exited the vehicle.

18-year-old John Herrera Boanerge, an occupant of the Honda, was then struck by the driver of an unknown vehicle headed southbound. The driver did not remain at the scene.

Boanerge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident, which is Austin’s 100th fatal crash of the year, remains under investigation at this time.
