News Update: Pedestrian killed on Ben White was trying to direct traffic
AUSTIN, TX – More information has emerged regarding yesterday’s fatal pedestrian collision on E Ben White Boulevard.
According to Fox 7, the incident began just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, when a pickup truck lost some of its load of mulch on Ben White near Highway 71. The truck’s driver stopped the vehicle, and several workers attempted to retrieve the spilled mulch while directing traffic away from the scene.
Austin Police Sgt. Earl Garrison says that two vehicles collided as they tried to avoid the stopped truck. One of the cars subsequently struck a worker as he was attempting to pick up the mulch. That individual died at the scene.
Garrison urges the public to avoid similar situations, by calling emergency services after a traffic mishap instead of trying to fix the situation themselves.
