News Update: Freezing conditions hamper response to apartment fire
AUSTIN, TX – KXAN reports that freezing conditions impeded firefighters’ ability to combat a blaze at an apartment complex on Brodie Lane yesterday.
This is an update to a story we reported on yesterday.
The Austin Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 6607 Brodie Lane shortly before 10:30 a.m. yesterday. While firefighters were able to evacuate the 20-unit complex, road conditions made it difficult for Capital Metro to transport the displaced persons to a safe location.
Additionally, frozen pipes and fire hydrants hampered firefighters’ ability to knock down the flames.
AFD said on Twitter that this was one of three structure fires they battled yesterday that were caused by fireplaces.
