News: Pedestrian dead after being hit by suspected drunk driver on McNeil Dr

AUSTIN, TX – A man was killed, and a driver is facing DUI charges after he allegedly collided with a pedestrian in a drunk-driving crash on McNeil Drive on Saturday night, according to the Austin Police Department.

The crash happened in the 7300 block of McNeil Dr at 8:40 p.m., as a 66-year-old pedestrian was struck by the driver of a Chevrolet Impala, 40-year-old Adrian Thomas.

The pedestrian died as a result of the crash.

Thomas was taken into police custody and is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated.

The crash is Austin’s 43rd fatal collision of the year. Authorities continue to investigate.

Pedestrians have very little protection against the impact of an oncoming vehicle, which means they often experience greater pain and injury than another motorist in a collision.
