News: Man dies at hospital following crash with supposedly minor injuries on Payton Gin Rd

AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have stated that the victim of a May 16 crash on Payton Gin Road has succumbed to his injuries, which were originally thought to be minor in nature.

According to the Austin Police Department, the crash occurred in the 800 block of Payton Gin Road at 2:11 p.m., when a 2005 Hyundai and a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu collided.

The driver of the Hyundai, 51-year-old Russell Charles McKiernan, was taken to the hospital with what authorities believed to be minor injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:04 p.m.

The other driver remained at the scene and is not expected to be charged with a crime.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision, which is Austin’s 40th fatal crash of the year.
