News: Hit-and-run driver strikes child on bike in S Austin
AUSTIN, TX – Police are looking for the driver who struck a child while he was riding his bicycle on a residential street in south Austin on Friday evening.
KVUE reports that the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Barton Hills Drive, where a Lyft driver had stopped, presumably to wait for a passenger. Footage of the incident shows that an SUV pulled up behind the Lyft vehicle and waited for a moment before whipping into the designated bike lane and striking a 10-year-old boy riding his bicycle. The SUV then sped off, as the boy got up from the ground and went running towards the Lyft vehicle.
Fortunately, the boy was not seriously injured.
His mother said she believes the SUV was a Hyundai Tucson, and that its driver was a woman in her 40s wearing her hair in a ponytail. She has filed a police report, and investigations are ongoing.
KVUE did not specify the exact location of the incident.
We will update this blog if more information becomes available.
