News: Elderly woman fatally struck by driver while crossing Riverside Dr

AUSTIN, TX – An elderly woman crossing the street was fatally struck by a driver on Riverside Drive on Friday night, according to the Austin Police Department.

The crash occurred in the 7000 block of E Riverside Drive, near Frontier Valley Drive just before 9 p.m., as a woman was attempting to walk across the street.

The victim, who was identified only as a white woman about 70 years of age, was then struck by the driver of a Chevrolet Spark headed westbound.

Despite the attempts of emergency personnel to resuscitate her, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:18 p.m.

The driver remained at the scene and has reportedly cooperated with authorities.

The accident, which is Austin’s 88th fatal crash of the year, remains under investigation at this time.
