News: ATCEMS reports “historic” day for emergency responses
AUSTIN, TX – Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services experienced an “historic” day on Monday, responding to 1,435 emergency calls as icy conditions gripped the city.
CBS Austin reports that this tally includes 93 calls about falls, 69 for exposure, 13 for carbon monoxide poisoning, and nine for traffic collisions. Darren Noak, an ATCEMS captain, told the outlet during an interview early Tuesday morning that emergency services had already responded to nearly 130 calls since midnight.

He advised readers to stay indoors, bundle up in winter clothing and sleeping bags, and avoid using stoves, ovens, and portable grills for warmth, as these could generate dangerous flumes. Instead, he said, use traditional fireplaces if possible, but only if they’re well ventilated.
