AUSTIN, TX – At least one person was severely injured during an icy-weather crash on the Mopac Expressway early this morning, according to the Austin-Travis County EMS.

The accident happened at about 5:15 a.m. in north Austin, on the ramp between Parmer Lane and N Mopac Expressway southbound.
One person was declared a trauma alert and was taken to the hospital in Round Rock for treatment.
Multiple victims were being evaluated by EMS at 5:51 a.m. and would possibly receive further treatment, though further updates were not immediately anticipated.
Multiple collisions were reported in the area due to icy roadways, which had impacted travel across the city, including a 26-vehicle pileup on Thursday morning.
The Texas Department of Transportation and ATCEMS advised travelers to stay home and avoid driving if possible.
