News: APD officer injured in collision on icy overpass

AUSTIN, TX – An Austin police officer was injured last week when a driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with her cruiser, KXAN reports.

Austin Police Association president Ken Casaday said that the unnamed officer had been parked on a flyover providing traffic support when another motorist lost control of his vehicle due to a combination of speed and icy road conditions and slammed into the officer’s cruiser. The officer suffered severe injuries including a concussion, laceration, and a brain bleed, as well as a possible fractured vertebrae.

She was hospitalized and is currently recovering at home.

Casaday did not specify where exactly the collision had taken place.
