News: Two people hospitalized after crash in downtown Austin ruptures waterline pipe

AUSTIN, TX – Two people were injured Saturday morning when their vehicle crashed into a waterline pipe in downtown Austin.

KXAN reports that the single-vehicle collision occurred at Guadalupe Street and W 6th Street at about 10:30 a.m. on January 23. Police arrived on the scene to find water gushing onto the street and two people in need of medical attention.

The individuals were transported to a local hospital. Their current conditions are not known.

It took Austin Water crews several hours to repair the broken pipe and fix a fire hydrant that had also been damaged. Multiple buildings on Guadalupe between 5th and 6th Street were without water during this time.
